Brisbane Tattoo Artist Blogs// Ibis or Bin Chicken? Iβve Bin Chicken You Out πποΈπ£
Thanks for stopping by to read these words!! In this Blogpost were talking Ibis', family, artisan craft, bin chicken merch, Resident Evil (*Spoiler free*) & what's news with me
If social media directed you here, I hope you like what you saw there! The lore of this new merch drop is; I tattooed this design on a friend when I first moved here to Brisbane.
The original design then was much more crude as I had designed & tattooed it around 8 years ago (a good timestamp for how long as well it's been that I've been living in Brisbane.)
What's most wild about this is, folks loved it! The Bin Chicken was one of the most popular designs I ever created. A charity even commissioned me to use it for their brand. Soon after, (once we all got COVID'd back in 2020,) I was in a position to push and sell merch to supplement income due to not being able to work.
I reached out to a Merchandiser and got my Bin Chicken design printed on a bunch of shirts, it went off!! To this day, I'm not sure I've had any shirt move as well or be remembered as well throughout the years. Shouts out to any asking for them to be reprinted since grabbing one back in the day
I've been on (and I still am) on a journey to sharpen the iron of my artistic skill and genuine output, throughout this I've endeavoured to have everything hand drawn first, even if it's just a study before then going on to create the final piece. Through out this intention, I've been recreating old designs to re invent them into my new style & niche.
Since starting this journey, I knew I had to recreate the original Bin Chicken design, I just lacked the vision and intention.
Recently (as anyone would know whom is reading this), my sister, Bridie, suffered a severe seizure, which compromised everything in her life with a huge financial fallout that ensued.
I obviously wrote a huge blog about it recently, so all the information is there if you care to know more on all that and the details.
Due to this, a need to raise money coincided with my need to recreate the Bin Chicken with intention, enough space has since opened in my life to combine those needs into what is being presented now π£ποΈ
Over the passed year, I collected different professionally shot and acquired DSLR photos of Ibis', and none of them felt right. I sketched all of them in different dynamic ways and it always just felt wrong. I didn't know what I was going to do with this concept, until one day ..
I was walking through Queen street mall here in Brisbane, Queensland. We just had a sudden and immense sun shower, I was walking through at the days brightest just before sunset. So everything was saturated, everything was also bright and lit by the full Queensland sun.
My assumption is the stoic and legendary Bin Chicken (Ibis as some prefer to say) loves to get in the trash when it's all freshly wet or damp. There was so many out in Queen street mall on this occasion, more than I've ever seen collectively, then, there it stood ..
A perfect profile being displayed by an Ibis in front of me, it's feathers stained and completely saturated from the rain, being perfectly lit by the sun
I quickly snapped a few photos before the animal displayed it's free will and stopped posing. (I've included this photo in the carousel of the Bin Chickens design process)
I knew from this moment, THIS was my reference that I wanted to pull the trigger on with this re-invention of the Bin chicken design
Which brings us to today. I've been wearing my test prints of this merch line for the passed fortnight, and I love them!! Everything is so comfy and GOOD quality. I'm stoked, it's a MASSIVE relief. To come this far and have the final product meet a standard I need, it's just so satisfying
The Bin Chicken comes in Crop Tee's for a female fit, Staple Tee's for a male fit as well as Tall Tees to pay homage to the original design. These also come in Tote bags in three different colours (Bin Juice light, Grey Marle & Black) as well as Active shorts in both Woman's & Men's fit
Everything is available for Presale until the end of the Easter Weekend, with all profits being donated to my sister, Bridie. All sales in the meantime are helping her, so if you need a size, different fit or colour available to you that you don't see listed, hit me up and I will get it available for you β¨
All Bin Chickens purchased on pre sale will receive a bonus, FREE vinyl sticker with their order and receive their tracking by mid April.
If you have any queries, hit me up! We did a really cool thing raising 1K for HHA last year, it would be great if we could raise just as much money through this for Bridie in her time of need :)
As this very latest blogpost comes to a wrap, I wanted to touch in on Resident Evil Requiem. Those who know me, know that Resident Evil (the video game series NOT the movies) is like such a deep love of mine. I've still got homies who haven't finished it yet (I'm looking at YOU, Moshua π€) so I'll respect wide berth of spoilers for those reading for whom that applies to.
I'd love to go SO in depth on it all but for now, all I'll say is; I couldn't have loved it more
On top of the wet-gore, J Horror flavour that keeps me invested in this series on top of it's connection to the lore, is how the developers seem to be learning from 'mis-steps' along their way and then endeavouring for great balance in gameplay
To take everything I love from the series so far and present it through nostalgia rich lenses in next-gen graphics via an incredibly balanced gaming experience for a Resident Evil fan such as myself, thank you SO much Capcom, I took a week off my life for this and I'd do it again in a heartbeat for all the thrill I experienced finishing this title
Personally, I'm currently experiencing a shift in workload and kinda need to get busier in tattooing after April, or alternatively get busier in printing garments through my company, FIGHT FAIR DESIGN & PRINT. If I can be of service to you in either, whether it's commissioning me for high quality design-work, printing a run of garments or merch, or booking your next tattoo work, hit me up!!
I'm looking to stay as busy as possible until May, of which there after I'll have some cool things to rollout from other passion projects.
I'm also really looking forward to touching base on how much money we raise and the success of this Bin Chicken merch line in the next blogpost, hopefully there'll also be cool life updates from there to share as well
In the meantime, thank you so much for reading. I've felt more support and good people in my corner recently, more so than in years. I'd love to keep this momentum swinging
Catch up soon
Cheers :)
